Mr. Mike J. Furlong, Sr., life member and former lieutenant of the Pioneer Fire Company in Jenkintown, has passed away at 62

Mr. Mike J. Furlong, Sr., a life member and former lieutenant of the Pioneer Fire Company in Jenkintown, passed away on Friday, September 19. He was 62.

A firefighter and member of the Pioneer Fire Company since 1977, Mr. Furlong rose to the rank of lieutenant in the 1990s and early 2000s.

“Many of his closest, life-long friendships were formed within the fire station,” the company said in an online tribute. “He leaves behind his dear wife, two sons, four grandchildren, six siblings, and numerous extended family members. Mike’s son, Mike Jr., has carried his legacy with the Pioneer Fire Company, currently serving as the station Captain.”


Mr. Furlong coached multiple youth sports through Jenkintown Youth Activities during the 1990s and 2000s, his obituary said.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation, Monday, September 29th from 9am-10:15am followed by his funeral mass at 10:30am both held at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 604 West Ave. Jenkintown.
