Informational presentation for proposed apartments adjacent to Fort Washington Train Station on Whitemarsh agenda

The April 14 agenda (page 40) for the Whitemarsh Township Planning Commission includes an “informational presentation” by the Hankin Group for a proposed development concept titled “Village at Fort Washington”, a mixed-use project off Bethlehem Pike and adjacent to the Fort Washington Train Station.

The Hankin Group is seeking input only. The proposal calls for two four-story apartment buildings totaling 159 apartments, 5,000 sf of commercial space attached to one of the buildings, and a stand-alone dental office of just over 3,100 sf. Based on the three pages made available with the agenda, there are also proposed improvements to the adjacent meadow, trail system, and a stream/woodlands corridor.

Neither the agenda nor the three-page presentation offers any details on how the Hankin Group will seek approval if it decides to move forward.

In 2017 and 2019, another developer sought a text amendment for the same property to permit 200+ apartments. The planning commission voted not to recommend the adoption of the text amendment to the township’s board of supervisors and the project never moved forward.

The meeting will be held at 6:30pm. at the township building.
