Mamma Mia Sneak Peek — Tickets going fast!

ABBA records were not exactly a staple of my record collection growing up, but in the 1970s, it was next-to-impossible to avoid their catchy melodies on the radio and the group’s regular appearances on the TV variety show circuit. ABBA built up a huge following with what can only be described as pop-music masterpieces that all-but-begged to become the basis for a light-hearted, musical theater production.

Last night, I had the opportunity to watch a dress rehearsal for Jenkintown Musical Theater’s production of “Mamma Mia” directed by Deb Schrager. If my toe tapping was any indication, this production promises a two weekends of fun-filled performances.

Paul Ellis, Lindsay Looloiani, and Keith Tracton

Set on a Greek island paradise, ABBA’s greatest hit songs weave together the story of a young woman and her quest to discover her father’s identity. It’s the heartwarming story of a mother and daughter, life-long friendship, and what happens when you invite three potential fathers to your wedding.

Tickets are currently on sale and going fast! Click this link for seats. The show starts this Thursday and runs for two weekends with matinee performances April 7 and April 13.

Michael Radzwilla and Lindsay Looloian as Sky and Sophie, the husband and bride-to-be.

Mamma Mia is JMT’s 74th consecutive production. What began as a yearly variety show in 1945 has grown into one of the area’s premier community theatre groups, attracting close to 2500 local patrons each year.

Opening number with Nina Harper, Sophie’s mom Donna Sheridan, and the cast.

Jenkintown Music Theatre is proud to support the performing arts programs of the Jenkintown School District. Incorporated as a non-profit group in late 2013, Jenkintown Music Theatre is continually looking to grow in efforts to support JSD by producing quality productions each year. JMT provides a substantial stipend to JSD following its yearly production and also awards grant money each year to a graduating senior who excelled in the arts during their time at JHS.

Wedding scene finale. You’ll have to see the show to find out who’s Sophie’s dad.
