Phillip Prince, 41, of Glenside, has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly causing a vehicle-bicycle crash in July which left a 22-year-old with severe head trauma and other injuries, KYW Newsradio reported.

Colin Cassidy, the bicyclist, underwent emergency brain surgery at Abington Hospital following the collision in the 2800 block of Meyer Avenue. Responding officers found him unconscious and bleeding from his head.

Prince’s vehicle, a black Jeep Compass, had front-end damage and a cracked windshield.

An investigation found that the Jeep was following a group of four bicyclists, including Cassidy, eastbound on Meyer Avenue.

“Cassidy was riding a BMX-style bicycle and had moved from the riding on the roadway to riding on the sidewalk. Once the Jeep reached the bottom of the hill, the Jeep crossed into the opposing lane of travel onto the sidewalk before striking the rear of the bicycle operated by Cassidy,” officials said. “Due to the impact, Cassidy was thrown approximately 90 to 95 feet. The investigation found that prior to the crash, Prince had gotten out of his Jeep in the area of Garfield Avenue and Jefferson Street and confronted Cassidy, saying he had stolen the BMX-style bicycle.”

Prince was arrested on scene and was initially charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault by Vehicle, Homicide by Vehicle, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person, officials said. 

Prince’s formal arraignment on attempted murder and aggravated assault is scheduled for October 21, KYW said.
