La Salle College High School hosts dedication ceremony for new David Center complex

A dedication ceremony for the David Center, a state-of-the-art academic complex on the campus of La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, was held on Wednesday.

Construction for the new space began in January. The addition contains a new shared building entry, central student commons, range of flexible student support spaces, a group study room, several faculty offices, an outdoor patio, and bathrooms.

Other features include:

  • Collaborative learning space, in group study room and commons area
  • Private office space for one-to-one learning with David Program instructors
  • Connection to La Salle’s main academic building
  • Instructional space for five teachers and a program director

The building will house the David Program, a support service for a limited number of college-bound students with documented mild learning differences, and is expected to see its first students this fall.

“It is now 20 years since the David Program began serving the students at La Salle College High School who learn differently,” the school said in a post. “The inspiration of the late Brother Rene Sterner, FSC, the David Program has grown over these past two decades to provide structure, support, and success for one of the significant diversities in the La Salle communities — intelligent and capable young men who will achieve significant things once they and their teachers understand their learning styles, and adapt to them in the classroom context and in assessment.”

Remarks from Thomas Walker, Class of 2014, during the building’s dedication ceremony are below:
