Hatboro-Horsham School District to launch BusPatrol photo enforcement on June 1

The Hatboro-Horsham School District has partnered with local law enforcement to launch BusPatrol photo enforcement cameras beginning June 1.

The year-round program has outfitted buses with cameras to detect vehicles that illegally pass stopped buses when the stop sign is deployed and red lights are flashing. Each incident is reviewed by police before a violation notice is issued, officials said.

Police are reminding area residents that Pennsylvania law requires motorists to stop at least 10 feet away from school buses with red lights flashing and the stop-arm extended. The penalty for a first-time violation is $300.

The BusPatrol program came from the district’s Safe Schools committee in conjunction with the Hatboro and Horsham Township Police Departments, officials said.

The Abington School District began using BusPatrol technology on February 3. Upper Moreland schools first enrolled in the program in January 2023. Cheltenham schools enrolled in September 2023.
