Jacob Boyd, a Glenside resident and co-owner of Bredenbeck’s Bakery of Chestnut Hill, is donating a five-tier cake to Glenside’s 250th Independence Day celebration next month.
Boyd said the display-only Styrofoam cake will be created over a four-day period at Bredenbeck’s production facility off of Mermaid Lane in Cheltenham Township. Once finished, it will be delivered to the North Penn VFW Post 676 in Glenside for their post-parade fundraising party.
“No one wants to eat a cake that’s been sitting in the sun all day, so we’ll be serving our cupcakes,” Boyd said. “We wanted to give back to the community that’s done so much for us. We love the area.”
Diana Anello, head super artist at Bredenbeck’s, told Glenside Local the cake will feature replicas of America’s 250th logo, the Declaration of Independence, the Liberty Bell, and an inkwell with a quill.
“It’s a really neat opportunity. The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays,” Anello said. “I try to make Glenside’s parade every year and then walk the streets during the fireworks later on. It’s a great time.”
“We’ve set up three tents the night before along Easton Road since 2019 when we moved to the neighborhood,” Boyd said. “It’s been a great experience every year.”

We will be in touch with the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association’s plans for this year’s parade and celebration soon.
