“Urinetown: The Musical” tells of a future when a water shortage
has made private toilets a thing of the past. Urine Good Company,
led by Caldwell B. Cladwell, has gained a monopoly on public
toilets and charges citizens for “the privilege to pee.” The
nefarious CEO enriches his company and exiles renegades to an
unknown fate in Urinetown. Meanwhile, Hope Cladwell, the leader’s
daughter, works with hero Bobby Strong to liberate the public from
capitalist oppression. Officer Lockstock, Little Sally, and the
rest of an animated cast tell a witty story satirizing musical
theatre conventions with irreverent, tongue-in-cheek
humor.
