Benjamin Berry, a Willow Grove native, Abington High School graduate, and World War II veteran, served as one of two Grand Marshals for the Philadelphia Veterans Parade on Sunday, November 5.
“I’m the oldest member of my family going back generations,” Corporal Berry said. “I felt great honor. But I said, ‘Why me, Lord?’ And He said, ‘You got to stay here until you get it right. And so I will just keep messing up.'”
Berry was drafted into the U.S. Army at 19, just after he graduated from Abington and celebrated his 100th birthday on Thursday, September 21.
