Elijah Span, 24, was arrested by Upper Moreland Township police on Monday, August 31, on charges of unlawful restraint, witness intimidation, false imprisonment, simple assault, criminal mischief, and harassment.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, police were dispatched to the Willow Grove Inn & Suites, located at 9300 Commerce Avenue in Willow Grove, for a report of a domestic dispute. Arriving officers said they heard yelling coming from one of the rooms and requested that those inside open the door.
Police opened the door with a master key and encountered Span, a woman, and three juveniles, the complaint said.
The woman later told officers she met Span at the hotel room to celebrate one of the juveniles’ birthdays. During an argument, Span allegedly “pushed and threw” the woman multiple times before taking her cellphone and slamming it on the ground, breaking the device.
The woman claimed Span prevented her attempts to leave the room by “grabbing her and throwing her around again”, the complaint said. When she attempted to use the hotel room phone to call 911, Span allegedly hung up the phone. He also allegedly stood in front of the door when police arrived.
The woman had a “bloody cut lip, an abrasion to her left knee and scuffed elbows” and a shirt that had been ripped near the collar, police said.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
