Interview with Abington grad Julie Bacanskas, Eagles’ social media Senior Manager

2011 Abington High School graduate Julie Bacanskas has been managing the Philadelphia Eagles social media outlets since 2015.

Glenside Local caught up with Julie amidst her demanding in-season schedule. As a lifelong sports fan, a Flyers die-hard, and an Abington native, Julie says her understanding of the Philly fan base has been crucial to her job description.

“If you go to any of Philly’s surrounding areas, everyone identifies as a fan. I know what we’re like, so that’s been a fun part of it,” she said. “I love what I’m doing. My family watched the Eagles every Sunday, and my love for the game has definitely evolved over the years.”

A Penn State grad and current resident of Glenside, Julie oversees the team’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Linkedin, Snapchat, and YouTube feeds. The hours are intense, collaborative, and rewarding, and the grind doesn’t end with the Super Bowl.

“The NFL has really structured the off-season so there’s something happening at all times. There’s a little downtime after the Super Bowl, and then we get into other things until July when it’s training camp again. They really filled up that calendar,” she said.


“I think the one misconception about social media is that you just post things,” she said. “It’s a lot of content creation in terms of videos and graphics, finding angles, and trying to figure out what our fans are reacting to. And then creating that type of content.”

Behind-the-scenes content seems to garner the most attention, which can include clips from team meetings and messages from the coaching staff.

“Fans are really interested in access content, and our ‘Audible’ mic’ed-up segments are our highest performers because, well, who doesn’t want to hear what the players are saying on game day? We also want to help the fans to get to know these guys, who they are as people, their personalities. That content has really resonated with our fans,” she said.
