A housefire in the 8700 block of Duvenn Drive in Wyndmoor early Monday morning took the life of an 87-year-old woman, the Chestnut Hill Local reported today.
6ABC reported yesterday that firefighting crews responded to a call around 2:15am to the center townhouse in a block of five townhouses in the Stotesbury Estates development. The woman was found deceased in a second-floor bedroom, officials said.
The identify of the victim has not been made public. A neighbor told Glenside Local that the woman’s dog died in the fire as well.
The Wyndmoor Hose Company posted the following on its Facebook page yesterday:
Early this morning Community Ambulance Association, Ambler was alerted to a respiratory emergency in the 8700 block of Duveen Drive in Wyndmoor. EMS arrived on location and requested the fire department be dispatched due to smoke in the residence. Apparatus from Wyndmoor, Oreland Volunteer Fire Company, Flourtown Fire Company, and Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company responded on the initial report. Springfield Township Police Department and Ambler Ambulance reported smoke in the home and the occupant unaccounted for. The working fire dispatch was sent which brought additional apparatus from Glenside Fire Company, LaMott Fire Company, and Edge Hill Fire Company. Snorkel 82 arrived on location and located heavy fire on the first and second floors of the house. Several hand lines were placed into service and a primary search was initiated. Interior conditions quickly deteriorated, and crews were pulled from the structure. The fire was controlled via exterior hose streams and crews reentered the structure. Unfortunately, the occupant was located deceased in a second-floor rear bedroom. Crews remained on scene for several hours doing overhaul and assisting the fire marshal’s office with their investigation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
