The Upper Moreland Police Department arrested Alexander Yollin, 35, for receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking, evading and resisting arrest, drug possession, trespassing and unauthorized use of a vehicle, among other charges.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Officer William Gershanick, Montgomery County Dispatch advised Lower Moreland police of a reckless driver near the intersection of Byberry Road and Huntingdon Pike in Huntingdon Valley on Thursday, August 20. Officer Gershanick followed the vehicle “through various areas of Upper Moreland Township and initiated a traffic stop on County Line Road”.
Following the traffic stop, the suspect, later identified as Yollin, provided Officer Gershanick with an envelope containing a W-2 tax form and an expired insurance card. The complaint notes that the vehicle’s registered expired in June.
Yollin told Officer Gershanick that his driver’s license was in his other car which was involved in an accident and identified himself as “Michael Simpson – DOB 2/3/1998”.
Yollin was then asked to provide a wallet which he had just removed from a bookbag in the rear seat. According to the complaint, he did not comply after being asked several times, “then opened the door and ran away on foot”. During a foot pursuit, Yollin stole a BMX bicycle from a residential property and began to ride away from the officer, who requested assistance.
Responding officers caught up with Yollin and “had to use substantial force” to handcuff him, the complaint says.
After Yollin was taken into custody, officers recovered drugs inside of his sock. A search also revealed Yollin to be a wanted person with a July 22 warrant for failing to appear for a State Drug Treatment Program.
The vehicle Yollin had been driving had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Philadelphia, the complaint says.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
