Upper Moreland girls’ LAX earns Courier Times/Intelligencer Team, Coach, and Player of the Year honors

Upper Moreland’s girls’ lacrosse team has been named the Courier Times/Intelligencer Team of the Year for the second straight season.

The Golden Bears leveraged their 2023 Suburban One League title and first-ever PIAA Class 2A tournament appearance to qualify for the state tournament again this year, winning a first-round game for the first time following a fourth-place finish in the PIAA District One tournament.

“We came into this season just thinking let’s see what we can do after we lost a lot of really good players to graduation for last year’s team,” UM head coach Kim Frantz told Philly Burbs. “I knew that we still had good talent on the team, but this group far exceeded my expectations.”

Frantz, who just finished her eighth season, was named the Courier Times/Intelligencer Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have really good coaches in our middle school and youth programs and that helps so much when the kids get to me in high school,” Frantz told Philly Burbs.

Annalise Messina, an Upper Moreland junior midfielder, was named the Courier Times/Intelligencer Player of the Year. She also received the Suburban One American Award from the Pennsylvania Area Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association last month.

“This year has been a lot of fun,” Messina told Philly Burbs. “We lost some really good players from last year, but everybody stepped up and we had some freshmen come in, too, that have really helped us.”

She was also named to the 2024 Courier Times/Intelligencer all-star girls’ lacrosse First Team.

Avery Adamski, a junior defender, and Addi Hurley, a junior goalie, were named to the Second Team.
