Texas man extradited to Montco on sex abuse charges involving a Whitpain minor

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, Whitpain Township Police Chief Kenneth Lawson, federal and Texas officials, announced yesterday the arrest and extradition of Mitchell Van Dusen, 31, of Magnolia, Texas, for multiple felony counts of Unlawful Contact of a Minor, Human Trafficking of a Minor, and Sexual Abuse of Children.

The investigation began on July 17, 2025, when Whitpain Township police were notified of a suspected online predator after a minor victim received a package via Amazon that contained a vibrator, lingerie, and a necklace. The victim informed detectives that she had engaged in an online relationship with an older man and that he had sent the package.

Van Dusen is alleged to have met the victim on July 4, 2025, in an online chat room, and that he would send the victim money in exchange for explicit images. The announcement from the District Attorney stated, “During their conversations, the victim disclosed to Van Dusen that she was a juvenile and their conversations continued.” A forensic analysis of the victim’s mobile phone was conducted by detectives and is said to have contain multiple photos and videos, including, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

On April 8, 2026, Whitpain Township and Montgomery County Detectives traveled to Texas to assist in the execution of a search warrant of Van Dusen’s home in Magnolia, Texas. He was extradited from Texas on April 22, 2026, and arrived at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on April 24, 2026.

He has been charged with Human Trafficking of a Minor, Unlawful Contact with a Minor, and Sexual Abuse of Children. He was arraigned on April 24, 2026, by Magisterial District Judge Richard H. Welsh, who set bail at 10% of $500,000, with conditions of no smart device usage, no contact with minors, and the surrender of his passport.

On April 27, 2026, there was a bail review hearing before Judge Margherita P. Worthington, at which bail was raised to $500,000 in cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 30 at 10:00am. The case will be prosecuted by the Captain of the Family Protection Unit, Assistant District Attorney Gabriella Glenning.
