Shooting in Elkins Park under investigation. One house struck, no injuries reported, Abington police say

The Abington Township Police Department announced today that officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue in Elkins Park at approximately 8:15pm on Sunday, March 22 for reports of gunfire.

According to the report, several callers reported numerous gunshots and a large group fleeing from the area of the basketball court behind the McKinley Firehouse.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a large group had been gathered near the basketball court,” the report says. “As a vehicle traveled northbound on Cadwalader Avenue, two males ran into the parking lot of the McKinley Firehouse, retrieved firearms, and one male discharged multiple rounds at the passing vehicle.”

The males then fled the scene in an Audi sedan (color unknown) and a gray Infinity sedan.

Police said no injuries have been reported to police or area hospitals. A neighborhood canvass revealed that one residence in the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue was struck by a single round.

Residents and businesses in the area are asked to review any surveillance or doorbell camera footage from the time of the incident and contact Detective Liz Cartwright at 267-536-1110 or ecartwright@AbingtonPA.gov if they observed any suspicious activity or relevant information.
