Senator Art Haywood, whose office is in Abington Township, announced today that he has sent a letter to President Donald Trump “demanding that he pay back over $170 million owed to the people of our district from his illegal tariffs.”
The Trump administration’s tariffs were found to have been issued illegally through a Supreme Court decision on February 20. Senator Haywood demands in the letter refunds of $1,700 for every family in the 4th Senatorial District.
“This letter stands as an official notice that compensation is owed to the people of my district. If you do not comply, I will pursue further action”, the letter states.
Representative Madeleine Dean of Glenside and Governor Josh Shapiro of Abington Township are copied in the letter. Last week, Governor Shapiro joined 23 other U.S. states in a lawsuit filed in the Court of International Trade challenging President Trump’s new global tariffs, which were announced immediately after the Supreme Court’s ruling on February 20.
