Incumbent Senator Art Haywood of Abington Township defeated challenger Mike Cogbill on Tuesday in the race for the 4th Senatorial District’s Democratic ticket.
According to electionreturns.pa.gov, Haywood received 25,162 votes (80.83%) to Cogbill’s 5,969 (19.17%). Republican Todd Johnson ran unopposed and will face off against Haywood in the midterm general election this November.
Haywood assumed the 4th district office on December 1, 2014.
Representative Madeleine Dean of Glenside ran unopposed for the 4th Congressional District’s Democratic ticket. She will face Republican Aurora Stuski, who also ran unopposed, in November.
Dean, an Abington High School graduate, has served the post since 2018 and is currently serving her fourth term.
For the 153rd Legislative District, Representative Ben Sanchez of Abington Township ran unopposed and will face Republican Cory Toner in November. Representative Napoleon Nelson, who serves Glenside, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, and Springfield, and Representative Nancy Guenst of Hatboro each ran unopposed and will have no challengers in November.
NO FAKES Act
In related news, Dean and Representative María Elvira Salazar of Florida have reintroduced a bill to federally protect individuals from AI-generated deepfakes.
“The use of AI is only growing, and Congress must catch up with common sense, common ground regulations,” Dean said. “By granting every person a clear, federal right to control digital replicas of their own voice and likeness, the NO FAKES Act will empower victims of deep fakes; defend against sexually explicit deepfakes; and safeguard human creativity and artistic expression. We must support technological innovation while preserving the privacy, safety, and dignity of all Americans.”
