Saint Basil Academy students celebrated their 5th Annual Community Day on October 5th. According to the school, each year students, teachers and staff members look forward to sharing their time and talents with people of all ages and needs. School officials explained that families of students at Saint Basil Academy assisted by donating food items used for sandwich bags which were packed for distribution.
“We are grateful to the organizations with whom we partnered, including Briar Bush Nature Center, Face to Face Soup Kitchen, Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic School, Holy Redeemer Garden, Holy Redeemer Thrift Shop, Our Lady of Confidence, Philabundance, Saint Helena’s/Incarnation, Saint Luke Preschool, Saint Martin of Tours, Saint Joseph’s Manor, Sunrise Senior Living and The Breathing Room Foundation,” stated officials with Saint Basil Academy. “From tutoring to gardening as well as arts and crafts to food packing, these Saint Basil Academy students opened their hearts to others.”
“While the upper classes were out working in the community, freshmen remained at the Academy to meet The Breathing Room Foundation’s Volunteer Coordinator, Eileen Carissimi and guest speaker, Patty Rose,” school officials continued. “Patty shared her own story of surviving breast cancer, as well as information about how The Breathing Room works to provide benefits to families in need. Based on what they learned, some students were compelled to volunteer for The Breathing Room Foundation on their own time. Students later made blankets for The Breathing Room Foundation and sandwich bags for Face to Face Soup Kitchen.”
“Saint Basil Academy is grateful to all who helped make Community Day a wonderful experience,” school officials concluded. “It is another example of how we live our mission to build the minds of leaders through service and compassion.”
