Woman turns self in to Lower Moreland police after using stolen fake checks to steal over $15K

The Lower Moreland Police Department announced that Symiera Stanley, 25, turned herself in to authorities on Wednesday, April 24 for using stolen fraudulent checks to steal over $15,000.

An investigation began on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 when a victim reported the theft of $15,225.75 from their bank account belonging to their business, as well as two attempted thefts in the amounts $4,900 and $4,800, police said.

The theft and attempted thefts occurred through the use of fraudulent checks discovered to have been stolen after being placed in a United States Postal Service mailbox, police said, and the victim reported the funds were stolen from their account without their knowledge or authorization.

One check was dated May 10, 2022, under the name, “Symiera Stanley”.

An investigation of the check deposited under that name revealed it had been deposited/cashed into an account for Stanley. Bank surveillance showed her depositing that fraudulent check on May 16, 2022.

An arrest warrant was issued for Stanley on January 9, 2024, police said.
