Rhonda Isser, a Wyncote resident and longtime active member of the community, recently relaunched the Cheltenham Infrastructure Solutions Facebook page which primarily deals with infrastructure issues throughout the Township, including permits, zoning, sewer laterals and government solutions.
Isser maintained the page for over seven years, and decided it was time to set it aside on November 6, 2022.
“I was just burnt out. I tried to be diligent and it’s hard work. I wanted community input before I made the decision, and the response I got was, ‘Please do, we want you back, but we don’t want it to affect your health.’ It had gotten to be a bit much, and now I feel like the timing is right,” Isser said. “There’s a lot going on that will involve conversations going forward.”
On Tuesday, August 29, she decided it was time.
“There was concern in the community that there wasn’t enough open discussion about the facilities. People wanted it back because they felt that transparency was important,” she said. “I think people appreciate that I tell the truth. I don’t do it to stir the pot, I do it because I know how things are supposed to work. I have a good amount of experience and feel that I have something to offer.”
The page includes announcements on all things Cheltenham, from the Township’s Deer Park Management Program to the forthcoming ParkMobile launch to discussions on infrastructure changes, its bread and butter.
“I’ve been overwhelmed since Wednesday . We already have 60 new members. We’ve gone from nothing to 1,500 members,” she said. “Engagement has been up as well. We have a lot of qualified people in the Township, and I hope they continue to contribute and be engaged.”
She currently serves as a board member of the Cheltenham Township Community Development Corporation. Her involvement with the Township began nine years ago when she joined a sewer infrastructure meeting. In Isser’s words, “things just kind of snowballed from there.”
She has since served as a member of Cheltenham Township’s Facilities Committee for one year, the Stormwater Management Committee for two years, and the Planning Commission for five years. She won the Sustainable Cheltenham Award in 2018 for keeping residents calm and explaining the ins and outs of a chaotic $50M sewer sale to Aqua America’s Pennsylvania branch.
Isser retired from her duties with the Township in November 2022, including her co-hosting responsibilities with “Glenside Marketing Monday,” which advertises local businesses on the Glenside & Wyncote PA community Facebook page.
