Glenside parade volunteer recognized for organizing Keep the Parade Running 5K fundraiser

Melinda Hanford, an area resident and volunteer with the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association, was recognized for her decade-long commitment to organizing the “Keep the Parade Running 5K” on Wednesday, October 8.

Carol Gillespie, the fundraiser’s founder and a lifelong Abington resident, presented Hanford with the Commissioner Mike Gillespie Award. They were joined by members of the Abington Township Police Department and other volunteers who were recognized for outstanding service and contributions to our community.

“Carol started the 5K over 13 years ago in honor of her late husband, Mike Gillespie. The 5K has grown to become a pillar of our community that residents and non-residents alike look forward to each year,” the GGPA said in a post. “Congratulations, Melinda, on this wonderful achievement. We thank you for the difference you have made and continue to make!”
