Perelman Jewish Day School of Melrose Park to serve as campus of K-12 merger

Perelman Jewish Day School, located at 7601 Old York Road in Melrose Park (Cheltenham Township), will serve as one of three campuses of a newly formed and yet-to-be-named independent Jewish day school, The Philadelphia Business Journal reported.

According to their coverage, Perelman Jewish Day School (Wynnewood and Melrose Park, pre-K through fifth grade) is merging with Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy (Bryn Mawr, grades 6-12), with unified operations to begin in fall 2027.

Barrack and Perelman have about 700 students and 195 faculty and staff members, The Journal said. Rabbi Marshall Lesack of Barrack will head the new school.

“This is a milestone moment for the Jewish community of Philadelphia,” Lesack said in an interview. “I hope that it can also be seen as a milestone and a model for other communities to see two thriving Jewish day schools working together.”

“Jewish education has never been more critical than it is now, and it is clear to us that a unified school will put us in the strongest position to ensure that Jewish education thrives in Greater Philadelphia and beyond for generations to come,” Daniel Eisenstadt, chair of the combined school’s board, said in a statement.

Perelman’s Melrose Park campus is part of the 28-acre Mandell Education Campus, the former home of Gratz College before it moved to Jenkintown.
