Caden Bronson, a senior at Springfield Township High School, won the AAA 300-meter hurdles at the PIAA Track and Field State Championship on May 23, Suburban One Sports reported.

The Oreland native ran a personal best 37.77 seconds, which was also a new record for the school.

This was his first year running the 300-meter event.

“Yes, I would describe it as a very unexpected senior year,” he told Suburban One Sports in a Univest spotlight. “I was hoping to just continue to focus on the same individual events that I had done since my freshman year, but then I ended up trying something new to just get us some more points, and it everything just kind of worked out perfectly.”

According to the Chestnut Hill Local, Bronson is one of seven Spartans to win the state championship and is the school’s first state champion since it moved up to the AAA classification in 2018. 

He plans to major in sports management at Frostburg State University in Maryland this fall.
