The Abington Township Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of five Jefferson Health properties at their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 28.
Township manager Chris Christman told Glenside Local that the township intends to purchase the properties through eminent domain for $3 million.
“The funds will come from cash on hand,” Christman said. “Should the township elect to float a General Obligation Bond in the future, those funds could be reimbursed through that process.”
The locations of the properties are as follows:
- 1177 Old York Road
- 1169 Old York Road
- 1159 Old York Road
- 1165 Old York Road
- 1874 Old York Road

At present, three of the properties are vacant. One is used as a surface parking lot for the township, and one is occupied by State Representative Ben Sanchez’s office.
Christman said that potential future uses will be explored following the completion of the acquisition process.
More to come.
