Montgomery County is looking to hire full-time 9-1-1 telecommunicators for its 2023 spring/summer class.

From the County’s advertisement:

Serving over 856,000 residents situated across nearly 500 square miles of land area, we are one of the busiest 9-1-1 centers in Pennsylvania. In 2022, we answered 694,606 emergency calls, an average of more than 1,900 per day. In addition to processing incoming calls, we also dispatch for 90 fire/rescue companies, 20 EMS squads, 50 police departments, and numerous County agencies. In 2022, we dispatched 835,927 incidents, an average of nearly 2,300 each day.

The position’s starting annual salary ranges from $39,382 – $45,289 and a potential sign-on bonus. New hires need a high school diploma and a six-month training class before beginning work.

Benefits include 80 hours of vacation time (increasing to 120 hours after 5 years of service), 40 hours of personal time, 11 paid County holidays, sick time, and additional leave for bereavement, military leave, jury duty, and more.

Paid training for the spring/summer class starts on Monday, July 17. The timeline for hiring is as follows:

• Applications accepted: May 1st – June 16th
• Interviews: May 2nd – June 26th
• Testing closes: June 21st
• Training class starts: July 17th
