Jenkintown School District’s new superintendent begins tenure

Dr. Brea D’Angelo, superintendent of the Jenkintown School District, began her tenure this month, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

According to The Inquirer’s coverage, D’Angelo’s first job was in sports journalism. She covered the Philadelphia 76ers for WBCB radio in Levittown.

She began her academic career as a special education assistant in the Lower Moreland School District, later serving as a secondary English teacher for seven years. She most recently served as the Director of Educational Affairs in the Hatboro-Horsham School District after having previously been the principal at Pennypack Elementary and the assistant principal at Keith Valley Middle School.

“I am most looking forward to the opportunity to give back to a community through meaningful, student-centered leadership. I value working alongside dedicated educators, staff, families, and students to build a shared vision for success.” Brea said, as quoted by her alma mater.

She earned her master’s in special education and received a Ph.D. from Gwynedd Mercy University.

Dr. D’Angelo’s plans include publishing a monthly newsletter and was described by The Inquirer as a “diehard Philadelphia football and basketball fan”.

“I always knew, instinctively, that I wanted to be an educator. I was looking for work where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, and education provided that in a very real and lasting way,” Brea said. “I have always loved working alongside educators and found a great deal of fulfillment in leading professional learning. Moving into administration allowed me to expand that impact beyond a single classroom or initiative. It provided an opportunity to support systems, shape culture, and influence outcomes across an entire organization.”

Dr. D’Angelo took over the district following the controversial departure of Dr. Jill Takacs, who stepped down in April.
