After roughly 20 years serving various roles for Cheltenham Township, Kelly Rebitz has been promoted to a newly created position: Parks & Recreation Administrator, effective immediately.
According to Heather Samuels, Director of Human Resources, Rebitz’s new role will be an expansion of her previous duties as the Department’s Recreational Program Coordinator.
“She’s an asset to the Township,” Samuels said. “She’s now assisting with hiring, managing facility rentals, organizing recreational programming, and overseeing registration for the pools. She does payroll, revenue reporting, and working with the community. She’s very passionate about Cheltenham, people know her, they love her, and we think she’ll do great in that role.”
“I’m excited to be in my new role as the Parks and Recreation Administrator because it will allow for my continued growth as a Parks & Recreation professional, while still getting to serve the Cheltenham community,” Rebitz said. “Cheltenham is my home, and I’m passionate about providing opportunities for recreation and connection for all our residents.”
Rebitz began working for Cheltenham in the early 2000s as an Assistant Supervisor and then as Head Supervisor of the Township’s Kiddie Camp. Other appointments with the Township have included roles involving the community center, the public works department, and, most recently, Parks & Recreation. She learned the ropes of the community pools, became a liaison to both the Twinning Committee and the Historical Commission, and began to run larger-scale special events in addition to her previous Parks & Rec duties.
Rebitz served as Interim Parks and Recreation Director for most of 2022, and this year, she became a nationally certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
“I continued to run special events, registrations, and assist the director with pools and camp as needed. I am currently debating which certification to pursue next based on what my department needs,” she said.
The Township is currently hiring a new Parks & Recreation Director to replace Fabien Desrouleaux, who started the role in late 2022, and a Recreational Program Coordinator, the role previously held by Rebitz.
“We’d like someone who has a passion for this type of work, and someone who cares about the community and can be trusted to bring their creative side and ideas to some programming,” Samuels said. “We’re looking to expand the programming we already have. All of that would be a plus.”
The Township is also recruiting a Finance Director, a Stormwater Program Coordinator, a maintenance assistant, and paramedics.
“We’d love to have someone with 9-1-1 experience join our EMS team,” Samuels said.
