A man with a plan: meet Fabien Desrouleaux, Cheltenham’s new Parks & Rec Director

Fabien Desrouleaux, CPRP, AFO, is the new face of Cheltenham Township’s Parks and Recreation department.

Originally from Florida, Fabien comes to Cheltenham from Needham, Massachusetts, a precinct outside of Boston, where he served two years as the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation. He brings years of experience to the post, having worked in the municipal recreation since 2012.

“I’m looking to meet more folks in the community, including the school districts, Salus, and Arcadia. I’d like to work on potential partnerships and new programming and bring some special events back,” Fabien said.

Part of his plan for Cheltenham includes Rowland Community Center, Glenside Hall, and La Mott Community Center, each of which are temporarily closed.

“We used to use Glenside Hall as a rental facility, and we’re looking at future plans for all three of those facilities,” he said. “I want to evaluate the budget for this coming year, so there are a number of factors at play before I can determine what I’m going to do.”

His tenure began on December 5, replacing the short-lived John Piepsny, and Kelly Rebitz, who served as the Interim Director from August until Fabien took over.

“I’m thrilling to have him here,” Kelly said, “and I’m thrilled to have a partner.”

“I came to Cheltenham because I thought it was a beautiful community, and the team looked amazing. I think the community has tremendous potential. We have great parks and facilities,” Fabien said. “The folks I’ve met around town have been amazing to talk to and work with, and I love the diversity of the area.”
