Retro Auto Works, located at 2926 Mount Carmel Avenue in Glenside, opened their doors in June.
Shane Daly, an Abington Township resident and a father of three, co-owns the shop with his father, Dennis Burke of South Philly, and his longtime friend, Justin Steinert of Levittown.
The automotive repair business started in Pottstown in 2021. Daly said a second shop has always been on his radar.
“The plan has always been to expand. Now that we’re in year five, I got the itch. I called my commercial realtor and asked what was up for sale. He told me the address and it turned out to be seven minutes from my house. I came and looked at it in February, made an offer, and we pushed forward from there,” he said.
“The shop is part of my dad’s retirement plan. Justin and I have been friends for about 15 years and always talked about opening a shop together,” he said. “It’s truly a family operation. My brother is a technician at the Pottstown location, my wife’s best friend Stacy is our service advisor. That’s something I’m very proud of. That’s what we’re all about.”
No stranger to servicing the area, Daly said he started his career as an automotive technician in 2008 at Firestone in Abington and later worked at Sussman Honda around 2015.
Daly and company purchased the property from Mark Hood, the longtime owner of Mark’s K&R Tire (formerly K&R Tire).
“He was a staple in the community since the early 2000s and he was happy another independent shop bought the property,” Daly said. “Things have been going well. We’ve retained a lot of his customers. Mark was an old-school type of guy so we’re trying to bring in new-school systems and technologies.”
Among those new technologies are state-of-the-art digital vehicle inspections.
“We look the vehicle over and do a free inspection. All of our recommendations are accompanied by pictures and videos. Our industry is one of the least trusted out there, so it helps builds trust with our customers,” he said. “We’ll eventually offer free of charge loaner vehicles, and we offer a shuttle service for customers who are within a mile or two. We also have great lift capabilities for larger vehicles.”
