A GoFundMe has been launched on behalf of Dave “Spotty” Driscoll, a volunteer coach with UMHoops and an Upper Moreland Little League coach/board member, to help cover costs for a new wheelchair.
According to the campaign, Mr. Driscoll has been unable to walk since 2019 following an accident.
From the GoFundMe’s description:
Dave’s friend Pete here trying to help Dave get a new wheelchair. Dave’s journey as a Quadriplegic started in 2019 with an unfortunate fall causing severe spinal cord injury, impairing all four limbs (Quadriplegic.) Dave (Spotty) as nicknamed from his youth in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, has endured the sudden reality of being paralyzed with a consistent positive attitude and sense of humor that can make Angels laugh. But, in the Fall of 2023 an accident involving his wheelchair and a handicap ramp that was not properly maintained caused additional injuries (See Pics). This was actually the 2nd accident with his present chair.
After months of rehab, Dave is ready to move around but he is constrained by his chairs ability to navigate the area. He needs a new chair that will allow him to safely get around the area where he lives but insurance will not cover the estimated 25k cost. In fact, contrary to what some think, many costs associated with being a quadriplegic are not covered by insurance! The family struggles to absorb these monthly bills, leaving a new chair just a daydream.
Please help get this done! We cannot reverse his paralysis but by donating we can help make Dave’s reality become more livable, more like our own! Any amount of giving … is considered giving from the heart and will never be forgotten. Thank you and God Bless!
