Glenside’s Moody Jones Gallery to host ‘Phenomenal Women’ Artists Talk on Thursday, June 29

Moody Jones Gallery, located at 107b South Easton Road in Glenside, will host an Artists Talk on Thursday, June 29 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm as part of its Phenomenal Women art show, which runs through June 30.

The Talk will feature Jessie Tristan Read and Ayiana Viviana Porter who will discuss their inner vision as abstract modernistic artists and the ways in which they use shapes, color and lines to create new forms and ideas that go beyond representational art.

They will also explain why they chose abstraction as their artistic method, their backgrounds, and the messages they impart in their works.

Read looks to jazz as her inspiration, working in pencil, charcoal, pastels and acrylics on canvas to weave expressive works that are free-flowing.

“I love music, but I can’t sing, so I paint. It is my way of telling without singing a word,” says Read.

Porter tells stories in her art by using free-form lines to encourage viewers to delve deep within themselves to tap into their emotions and thoughts.

“Sometimes a tantalizing plate of food captures my eye and other times it’s letters hidden in structures that I piece together to create words,” says Porter, who is also a writer and photographer.

The actual talk will be held from 6:30-7:30pm and will be available on Facebook Live.
