Mark Showmaker, Fetters Mill Fire Rescue’s Joint Chief of Emergency Services, published a Joint Position Statement today on behalf of the ongoing consolidation process of Bryn Athyn Fire Company and Huntingdon Valley Fire Company.

According to the statement, Showmaker was appointed “to assess and recommend improvements to fire protection and EMS services across both municipalities.” His recommendations included the consolidation of the companies, which “mirrored the suggestions of authors of several municipality requested studies.”

The statement notes that each company has “begun or completed rebranding efforts under the FMFR identity” and that eventually each department will phase out their respective social media accounts and direct residents to FMFR’s sites.

The first phase of consolidation began in January via the switch to a common emergency service number. In April 2024, Bryn Athyn Borough Council members unanimously adopted a resolution that permitted the previously discussed Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement with Lower Moreland Township.

“This initiative reflects our shared commitment to providing the highest level of emergency services to our residents,” Bryn Athyn Fire Company said in a post. “By working together as one unified department, we can strengthen response capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and better serve the community we all deeply care about.”

“The formation of Fetters Mill Fire Rescue is a step forward for safety, sustainability, and for the future of fire and rescue services in our region,” the post said. “We thank you for your continued trust and support as we move toward this important milestone.”
