The Federal Donuts and Chicken in the Willow Grove Pointe shopping center has permanently closed as of today, according to its Google listing.
The eatery first opened in January 2025.
The closure was part of a larger scale shutdown of several locations. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the founders “are focusing on a reset, including reacquiring several of the shuttered shops to operate as company stores and reworking operations to improve food and service.”
Michael Sloane, one of the Willow Grove location’s three franchisees, is, a well-known restauranteur who owns Jasper’s Backyard in Conshohocken, The Fort in Fort Washington, Dettera in Ambler, and is in the process of opening Academy in Fort Washington.
“These situations can be complicated, and not every partnership evolves the way people initially expect,” Sloane told The Inquirer.
Federal Donuts & Chicken was founded in 2011 by James Beard Award-winning restaurateurs Chef Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook and quickly became known for its fried chicken and donuts. Since then it has expanded its menu to include fried chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, and breakfast sandwiches.
11 locations in greater Philadelphia are still open, according to the company’s website.
