Elkins Park man who allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened staff at Penbryn Pool turns self in to Abington police

The Abington Township Police Department released today the identity of the suspect who allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened staff at the Penbryn Pool on Sunday, August 17.

According to a report, the suspect, Makai Upshaw-Ivory, 26, of Elkins Park, had been arguing with his children inside the pool locker room. A bystander “attempted to intervene to calm the suspect down” as Upshaw-Ivory headed to the parking lot. He then “allegedly became agitated, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and threatened pool staff and members of the public before fleeing in a vehicle,” police said.

Upshaw-Ivory has been charged with multiple misdemeanor and felony offenses including Terroristic Threats, Persons not to Possess Firearms, Simple Assault, and Reckless Endangerment, among other charges, police said.

He turned himself in to Abington police on Monday, where he was processed and is currently awaiting arraignment, police said.
