Easton Rd bridge in Glenside to see construction, single lane flagging on weekdays beginning April 7

Cheltenham Township officials announced today that construction on the Easton Road bridge in Glenside will involve a single lane with flagging on weekdays beginning Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 18 from 9:00am – 3:00pm.

Flaggers will be in place at both the Glenside Avenue and Mount Carmel Avenue intersections and at least one sidewalk will always be available, the township said.

From the announcement:

SEPTA’s third-party contractor will be working on both the inbound and outbound platforms at Glenside Regional Rail Station. Crews will be demolishing the portion of platforms in place between the top of the stairwells and the end of the bridge deck over Easton Road.  Due to concerns that the work on the topside of the bridge deck could generate construction debris below the bridge, flagging a single lane of traffic is required as a safety precaution.  New platforms for these impacted areas will be put in place during the first two weeks of May.

All Regional Rail service will operate as normal weekdays during this scheduled work.

Contractors began preparation for platform repairs earlier this month. Abington Township commissioners said in late February that they worked with Governor Josh Shapiro’s office to persuade SEPTA to delay the project.
