Abington Township’s Detective Rob Davis, courageously tells his story in “Beneath the Vest” about an incident that occurred in 2008 and what later lead to a battle of mental illness.
It was December of 2008 when Detective Davis, an officer for 20 years, was out on a domestic dispute in which an armed suspect was trying to enter a home of an ex-girlfriend. Detective Davis confronted the suspect and fire was exchanged amongst the two. Both the detective and the suspect were hit and treated at Abington Hospital for bullet wounds.
Being the devoted, diligent officer that Robert Davis is, he was back to work a few weeks later. As time went by, he later began to experience post traumatic symptoms and was diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
He shares his courageous story in hope that he can help others that are experiencing similar symptoms of mental illnesses. His words speak volumes of the necessity of getting professional help, either for yourself or a loved one in need. His story was produced by and shared on Oc87recoverdiaries.com.

Beneath the Vest: Conversations about Mental Health.
We felt compelled to address the mental health challenges encountered by the first responder community. As in other parts of our society, first responders face a culture of stigmatization and discrimination, which may be keeping people from getting the help they need. This is film number one in our three-part series.
