Cheltenham Township to roll out ParkMobile online parking payment system

Cheltenham Township recently announced that it will be converting its parking payment system from traditional meters and kiosks to a new zone-enforcement system called ParkMobile.

ParkMobile is an online parking payment system which will allow residents and visitors to pay through cellphones in hopes of eliminating the practice and anxiety of having to “feed the meter.”

According to the Township, the new system will first be implemented in municipal lots, followed by metered areas. Meters and kiosks will be phased out over the next year.

The initial phase of the ParkMobile system and signage is expected to be in place sometime in July. The Township will continue to provide updates going forward and will maintain an FAQ section on its Parking Information page.

From the Township’s announcement:

Drivers can park anywhere in a zone, which will be marked by signage with zone numbers. Drivers will no longer need to make sure they have coins to feed meters or kiosks; users will pay by phone—either through an app, a web browser, a text, or a phone call. This system offers additional conveniences to users, such as notifications when your parking time is about to expire, the ability to extended duration remotely if you need more time, the options to add or remove payment methods and manage vehicles in the app.

The Township noted that staff and the Board of Commissioners are currently reevaluating the Residential and Commercial Parking Permit program.

The system has been in use in Jenkintown since 2018. For more on ParkMobile, you can visit their website.
