The Empowerment Program in Cheltenham (EPIC) at Cheltenham High School in Wyncote hosted a holiday event designed to help students relax, connect, and enjoy a positive sendoff before the holidays.
The event was planned and led by Ms. Shanaye Tucker and included pizza provided at a discount by Apollo’s Pizza in Glenside, activities, interactive games (Jenga, jumbo Connect Four), as well as a gingerbread decorating contest.
Nick Choitz, a Life Coach and District Supervisor for We R H.O.P.E—Cheltenham School District’s mental health support initiative—made a surprise appearance dressed as the Grinch.
“I just wanted to do something unexpected and fun for the kids before the holiday,” Choitz, a former Cheltenham resident, said. “I wanted them to leave for break in a good mood and with smiles on their faces.”

“I enjoy hosting events like this because they create a safe, welcoming space where students can relax, connect with one another, and build positive memories beyond the classroom,” Tucker said. “Seeing students engage, smile, and feel a sense of belonging makes these events meaningful and rewarding.”
