Press Release:

Byron Greene has been named the Girls Basketball coach at Cheltenham High School, bringing with him more than two decades of experience spanning men’s and women’s programs at the high school and collegiate levels. Most recently, he served as the Penn State University Brandywine Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach since September 2024.

“What drew me to the job was my connection with the area and the highly respectable reputation of Cheltenham Girls Basketball,” Green said. “I expect to unite the Cheltenham community by creating a winning tradition.”

Greene’s coaching journey includes roles such as head girls basketball coach and assistant boys basketball coach at Community Academy of Philadelphia (2018–2019), head girls coach at The Independent School (2015–2016), and head men’s coach at Cornerstone Crossroads Academy (2013–2015). At the collegiate level, he has served as assistant women’s basketball coach at Arcadia University (2010–2012), graduate assistant men’s coach at Delaware State University (2006–2007), and began his career as a student manager at Delaware State from 2003 to 2006.

Known for his leadership, player development, commitment to mentoring student-athletes and focus on improving player performance and team dynamics, Greene aims to build a winning team culture emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and personal growth.

A resident of the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, Greene, who launched the non-profit Greene Preparatory Academy in 2022 with the mission of educating, training, and preparing student-athletes to become informed citizens, earned his B.S. in mathematics from Delaware State, and is expected to receive his master’s in special education from Point Park University next year. He teaches math at Esperanza Academy Charter High School.

Greene replaces Andréa Jones, a 2002 graduate of Cheltenham High School, who was hired in 2025.
