Cheltenham Fire Company seeking donations of American flags for Memorial Day/July 4th display

The Cheltenham Fire Company announced today that donations of American flags for display along Central Avenue, Ryers Avenue, and Ashbourne Road in the township are welcomed.

The company noted that none are currently flying for Memorial Day for the first time in 20 years due to a lack of suitable flags.

“Every year, the Cheltenham Fire Company proudly places 85 flags for Memorial Day, Flag Day, and the 4th of July. But the flags, last replaced in May 2016, are now faded, worn, and long past their lifespan,” their post said. “We tried to raise funds last year to replace them—but to date, we’ve only received 30 donations.”

The flags remain on display for Flag Day and Independence Day before being respectfully retired until the following year.

According to the company, individuals, families, and businesses can sponsor a new American Flag and pole for $75 each. Payment options include Venmo or by check.

You can make checks payable to Cheltenham Fire Company, with a note specifying “flag program,” and mail them to Cheltenham Fire Company, PO Box 85, Cheltenham, PA 19012. More details here.
