Cheltenham and Abington Police Departments Are Participating in State Wide Crackdown on Aggressive Driving

Cheltenham and Abington Police Departments along with 60 other police departments in southeast Pennsylvania, will be conducting aggressive driving enforcement activities, as part of a statewide mobilization that will run through April 29.

The enforcement was brought about as a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project. This project is funded by part of PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Our number one goal is to keep our roads safe,” says PennDOT District 6 Executive Kenneth M. McClain. “This type of aggressive driving enforcement coupled with community outreach and education will reduce dangerous driving behaviors that put motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians at risk.”

The 62 police departments will be targeting motorists exhibiting aggressive-driving behaviors such as speeding, running red lights, and tailgating.
PennDOT has offered some tips if you ever were to encounter an aggressive driver.
  • Get out of their way and don’t challenge them
  • Stay relaxed, avoid eye contact and ignore rude gestures
  • Do Not block the passing lane if you are driving slower than most of the traffic.
