Abington police arrest second suspect in Willow Grove Park Mall shooting

The Abington Township Police Department has announced a second arrest in connection to the shooting at the Willow Grove Park Mall on November 15th. The shooting left one man injured. The police previously arrested 18-year-old Heyzer Perez-Maldonado, of the 1700 block of Orthodox Street in Philadelphia on November 20th. On November 23rd, the second suspect, 17-year-old Justin Bermudez of the 3000 block of H Street in Philadelphia was taken into custody at his residence. He is to be charged as an adult.

On November 15, 2020, Abington Police Department officers responded to the Willow Grove Park Mall for a report of a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim struck by gunfire lying on the pavement outside the second-level entrance doors. The suspects fled the area before police arrived. An investigation was
initiated, and it was determined that the victim was shot by two individuals after a verbal altercation occurred inside the mall. The victim is being treated for serious injuries, but is expected to survive. As a result of the investigation, police were able to identify both suspected shooters.

Abington Police were assisted by the Philadelphia Police Department throughout the arrest process of both suspects. Both Perez-Maldonado and Bermudez were charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Carrying a Firearm without a License. Bail for each was set at $500,000 cash.
