Abington police arrest man for issuing terroristic threats while brandishing a gun, possession of narcotics

The Abington Township Police Department announced this evening that on Friday, July 26 at 6:09pm, officers responded to the 3000 block of Walnut Avenue in North Hills for a report of an armed subject that had just threatened the caller.

Police said the victim advised officers that the suspect, later identified as Donte Vaughn, was known to him and that this was the third time Vaughn had been to his residence that day.

The victim reported that Vaughn had threatened to “shoot this place up” and threatened a second victim saying “I’ll stitch you up too” during an earlier encounter.

Vaughn returned to the victim’s residence brandishing a black handgun and calling the victim down to the street to fight, police said. The victim refused and Vaughn left the area.

He was last seen walking towards his place of business on Mt. Carmel Avenue, according to officials.

Additional officers responded to that location and met with Vaughn, who had just emerged from inside the business.

He was detained and positively identified by the victim, police said.

Vaughn was unarmed when taken into custody and it was believed the firearm used was inside the business. Abington detectives responded and searched the property with a signed search warrant.

Detectives recovered eight firearms, three of which are un-serialized “Ghost Guns”, one was stolen from another jurisdiction, and one was outfitted with a device commonly referred to as a “Switch” which allows fully-automatic firing.

In addition to the firearms, detectives located body armor, several thousand rounds of ammunition, and narcotics.

Vaughn was charged with Terroristic Threats, Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act, and Possession of Narcotics.

He was arraigned and is being held on $99,000 cash bail.
