The Abington Fire Department led a 6ABC News crew through their recommendations for a safe fire escape plan at an Abington resident’s house.

Fire safety tips touched on smoke detectors, house maps, and exit strategies.

“Fires happen year after year, no matter how much prevention or work is done,” volunteer Chief Mike Jones, Abington Fire Company, told 6ABC.

The story was part of National Fire Protection Association’s annual Fire Prevention Week. This year’s official fire prevention slogan is, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
