‘Serious crash’ involving large fuel spill shuts down Glenside intersection, Cheltenham police say

The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced at approximately 1:14pm on Wednesday, October 28 that a “serious crash” recently took place at the intersection of Church Road and Limekiln Pike in Glenside.

“The intersection will be closed for an extended period of time due to a large fuel spill,” the post said. “Please avoid the area.”

Update from Cheltenham Township:

A serious vehicle crash at Limekiln Pike and Church Road resulted in a significant diesel fuel spill. Cheltenham first responders, Public Works, County and State personnel, and Hazmat crews are on site.

This intersection will be closed for an extended time.

Fuel did spill into the stormwater system through storm drains and booms are being placed throughout the creek to control the spread of fuel. Expect the odor of diesel in the area as the incident is cleaned and monitored; there is no need to report an odor of gasoline.

Update as of 3:52pm:

Church Road is now open in both directions at Limekiln. Limekiln Pike remains closed between Church Road and Oak Road.
