Cheltenham School District’s Facilities & Finance Committee met on Tuesday, August 4 to discuss initiatives taking place across the district.
Anthony Carter, director of facilities & maintenance, said that the stadium project site has received its new track as well as gates and cameras.
“The gates are up, the track has been painted, we have locks on all of our gates, as well as some cameras in the stadium area,” Carter said. “The only thing we’re waiting on now is for the fire marshal to come in and give a certificate of occupancy.”
Official plans for the new stadium date back to September 2024 and include an artificial turf field with an infiltration bed beneath, an expansion of the existing track to eight lanes, the addition of sand pits for long jump, surfaces for high jump and pole vault functionalities, plus other field events. The project was initially expected to be completed in fall 2025 and is expected to cost roughly $13 million, district officials said.
The high school parking lot, athletics field, and the district’s administration building have received cameras as well, Carter said, noting that the Glenside Elementary and Cedarbrook Middle School renovation projects are on time and on budget.
“They’re moving right along. Everything seems to be on target and we have no issues at this time,” Carter said.
Glenside Elementary is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The presentation notes that a new position titled “Elementary Climate & Culture” has been created through a grant from Pennsylvania’s Commission on Crime & Delinquency, though it does not yet appear in the district’s list of current job openings. The grant will also fund “trauma-informed training” for all district staff.
