Dr. Brian W. Scriven, superintendent of the Cheltenham School District, issued a memo yesterday regarding changes to the schedules for football and other fall sports.

An excerpt:

We have explored various options and prioritized all stadium construction requests by the contractors, but have, unfortunately, been unable to find a path that allows for the Stadium Complex project to be completed before the end of the fall sports season. We know how meaningful events like Homecoming and Senior Night are for our students, families, and community, and we deeply share in the disappointment of having to relocate games. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to deliver a facility that will serve our community for many years to come.

In July, Dr. Scriven said the project is “Facing unavoidable delays due to permitting complexities and an unusually wet season.” The completion target at that time was the first or second week of October.

Official plans for the new stadium date back to September 2024 and include an artificial turf field with an infiltration bed beneath, an expansion of the existing track to eight lanes, the addition of sand pits for long jump, surfaces for high jump and pole vault functionalities, plus other field events.

The stadium’s bleachers are also up for expansion for a total of 2,916 seats “to accommodate typical/existing home and visiting crowd attendance,” according to the application.

A 3400 sf building is proposed to replace the entry gate, concession stand and restroom facilities, along with new fencing for crowd control purposes.
