Cheltenham grad, police Sergeant commended for apprehending a homicide suspect in Lower Providence

Michael Higgins, a 1988 Cheltenham High School graduate and Sergeant with the Lower Providence Township Police Department, received a Distinguished Unit Commendation at the Board of Supervisors meeting last week for his exceptional police work during a homicide investigation and arrest.

Sergeant Higgins was commended alongside eight other members of the department for the safe apprehension of a homicide suspect shortly after the incident.

Before working in Lower Providence, Sergeant Higgins was member of the Norristown Police Department, serving in the patrol division, the canine unit and the SWAT team. He started working for the Lower Providence police in July 2006 and has worked his way up the ranks.

Sergeant Higgins is also a 1994 graduate of Temple University where he majored in Criminal Justice.
