Cheltenham Chamber of Citizens highlights George K. Heller School, Lynnewood Hall and the Rowland House

The Cheltenham Chamber of Citizens (CCC) has recently highlighted the George K. Heller School, Lynnewood Hall, and the Rowland House.

The site of the former Heller School is now the Cheltenham Center for the Arts located at 439 Ashbourne Road. It was originally built in 1883 to house the first Cheltenham High School and expanded in 1893 and 1906. Later additions took place between 1963 and 1969 after it was converted to the Cheltenham Center for the Arts. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Rowland House, also known as the “Shovel Shop”, was built around 1774, expanded from 1810–1820 and had additions built in the early 1900s and 1920s/1930s. According to the CCC, it is one of the least recognized historical sites in Cheltenham and is now the Rowland Community Center. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. More information on the house and shop can be found via The Historical Markers Database.
